Honestly, if I were to give a recommendation for Weapons in nioh 2...I'll say tonfa and odachi. Tonfa for massive ki damage and multiple hits, odachi for crow control and hit and run tactics. I main katana both in nioh 1 and 2, katanas are insanely cool, overwhelming and stylish once you figure them out. But it takes a long, long time. Every weapon has it's use. Dual swords are good for dodging and status effects build up, spear is the jack of all trades though rather complex in use, kusarigama can offer both control and range but is strict with positioning and timing for it's skills, etc...
